professional archivist

I have a detailed knowledge of the technical and strategic issues archive services face and the context within which they operate. I advise on operational matters, service development and transformation, I work with policy makers providing evaluations, feasibility studies and policy recommendations.   I am a Fellow of the Archives and Records Association, a Trustee of Archives West Midlands, and an Assessor and Mentor for ARA's Professional Membership Scheme

An extensive consultancy practice

Since 2003 I have worked right across the UK with every type of archive service in the public and private sectors including local authorities, museums, universities, libraries, businesses and collaborative ventures. I cover both technical and strategic issues. I also provide research, evaluation and advice to policy makers, sector leads and professional bodies on key areas such as Archive Service Accreditation and funding.

I have a Masters in Archive Administration, and I am a
Fellow of the Archives and Records Association
and a member of the Institute of Consulting.

Since I established my consultancy in 2003 I have seen all aspects of the UK archive sector from volunteer-run collections to major national institutions. I have a strong understanding of the organisational and environmental context within which public and private archive collections and services operate, as well as professional standards and best practices. I understand in detail the issues and opportunities they face and have long experience of providing bespoke, realistic analysis and solutions.
