Having designs on history

My latest commission is with Robert Welch Designs.  Robert Welch was an innovative designer.  A silversmith by trade he was one of the first designers in the UK to create cutlery using stainless stee in the 1950s.  He created many iconic styles which still have a striking modernity as well as familiarity because some of his designs became so unbiquitous and are still used today. His company is now run by his son, Rupert, and daughter, Alice, and still creates the most beautiful objects but has now expanded to meet an international demand. I'm helping the company decide how best to care for the historical collections created by Robert and the company.  To learn more about the company and see some lovely film footage of Robert at work click here.

Do you need to develop your project management skills?

I'll be running my popular  Introduction to Project Management course on 9 February.  This intensive one day course introduces you to the basics of planning and monitoring a project as well as looking at what skills you need to be a good project manager.  It's a very interactive course with a limited number of delegates to ensure everyone gets personal attention.  I look forward to seeing you there!  For more information go to Creating Capacity's website here where you will also find lots of other useful courses for people active in the heritage sector. The UK Centre for Carnival Arts launches its online carnival archive project

I was involved in a successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for £675,000 by the UK Centre for Carnival Archives to create an pilot online archive for carnival heritage in the East of England, the first such resource. The project team has now been appointed and I had the pleasure of providing archival training over three days to the team.  The project will be officially launched on 8 February at the Forum in Norwich.
