Elizabeth Oxborrow Cowan - Experience and testimonials

After several years working in the Bank of England and accountancy profession, I gained my MSc. in Archives Administration in 1996.  I then went on to be Archivist at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester where I gained wide experience in industrial and photographic collections as well as working within a Museum setting.  I then went on to become Deputy County Archivist at Greater Manchester County Record Office running a busy public service covering local government and business records in particular.  I also undertook outreach services, cross-sectoral working and developing funding bids.

I began my consultancy career in 2003.  Since then I have worked with individual organizations and at the regional and national level.  My contracts and partners have included archive services, museums, libraries, regional MLAs, cultural consultants, educators, architects and audience development specialists.

I maintain an extensive network of contacts and professional knowledge, as well as actively contributing to the archive profession.  I am a Registered Member of the Society of Archivists and I sit as an Assessor on the Society’s Registration Scheme.  I am also Director of Publicity and Communications for the National Council on Archives, which ensures that I am up to date with the latest issues in the archival sector.
